Reverse Culture Shock

Before I went abroad, I heard several people say that when you return you have a period of unavoidable depression. The longer you're away, the longer the depression. When I came home, I jumped right back into another program: interning in Sacramento through the UC Center Sacramento program. Now that I'm back at school, getting back into my regular routine, that sense of "reverse culture shock" and that unavoidable depression is starting to hit. I feel bored, anxious, and lethargic. I find it interesting that one of the signs of reverse culture shock is "need for excessive sleep." Last weekend was the hardest. I literally had nothing to do but homework and watch TV. I pretty much went crazy, slept all day long, and felt bad for myself. My roommates are worried about me because I'm obviously not myself. I'm already not a very happy go lucky person, so when I withdraw, it's pretty dark and scary.
Also, I'm literally starving for anything "European." I've been listening to European discotech music, and French radio stations (while I study, because the words are soothing and not distracting). I spent 5 months trying to drown out the techno music pounding through my wall, but now strangely, I'm craving it.
How am I coping? Not very well. Every little problem: my Macbook battery dying, and a bad day in class, is a million times harder to recover from. I'm trying to throw myself back into the game. This Friday I have a trip to Escondido planned to see the Queen Califia's Magical Circle Garden (sculpture garden by French artist Niki de St. Phalle). On Saturday I'm helping out briefly at the high school Model UN conference hosted by UCSD. Hopefully becoming more active on campus, and going on little fun day trips will help me settle back into life in San Diego.
